BIOGRAPHY
Fabio Cardano is a self-taught photographer who developed his visual language through an independent journey, structured in two phases.
He initially focused on landscape photography, aiming to capture the aesthetic beauty of the world in its purest and most captivating form. Although this approach earned him numerous national and international accolades, over time he began to perceive its limitations, sensing a disconnect between the idealized reality he portrayed and his desire to infuse his work with a more personal experience of the world.
A turning point came with his encounter with the (en)Visionography manifesto by contemporary photographer Anna Gospodarou — who no longer views digital photography merely as a “writing of light,” but rather as a “writing of a vision,” a reinterpretation of reality filtered through subjectivity and the unconscious.
This prompted the artist, to use a metaphor, to move from admiring the exposed part of an iceberg — bright and striking, like reality in its beauty — to exploring its submerged part, dark and deep — much like the complex multisensory interplay between reality and humanity.
To express this new approach, he abandoned photography as a mere reproduction of reality, adopting a more illustrative language based on multiple digital reworkings. His images, printed in large format, become symbolic gateways: surfaces that invite the viewer to transcend the limits of ordinary perception and immerse themselves in a universe suspended between vision and perception.
